TERREBONE, Ore. -- A Madras man has survived after a piece of framing wood from a travel trailer smashed through his windshield and impaled him through his upper-left chest, according to Oregon State Police.

Joshua Wagenblast, 28 crossed a center lane of traffic on Highway 97 about five miles north of Terrebonne.

He was southbound in a 2000 Chrysler Concorde when he struck a pickup hauling a trailer and continued to hit the trailer's left side. He also struck a 2008 Toyota Yaris nearly head-on.

A piece of wood from the trailer pierced Wagenblast's windshield and struck him in the upper left of his chest, police said.

He was pinned until extricated by rescue crews. He was flown to St. Charles Medical Cen
