Terry Munro carries a dummy in the competition.
Terry Munro won a “Toughest Firefighter” bronze medal for his age group at the “World Firefighter Games” in Liverpool, England.
The competition included pushing a 250-pound tire up several flights of stairs, running 24 flights of stairs, dragging a fire hose 150 yards, and carrying a 200-pound dummy 200 feet.
Munro started competing in 1996. Since then, he has won 5 gold medals, a silver, and a bronze. The 28-year Portland Fire Bureau veteran has also been promoted to Battalion Fire Chief.
Munro said he keeps in shape to stay true to his profession and set an example, even though his current position isn’t as physically demanding.
“You never know,” said Munro. “You might have to get out and do something, and you also need to be a role model for the young folks coming into the fire service and I take that serious.
Munro returned home from the competition on Wednesday.
