SALEM -- A quick-thinking DMV employee helped Salem police catch a would-be identity thief Saturday.

A man went into the DMV offices at 4555 Liberty Road S. to get a motorcycle permit Saturday afternoon, according to Salem police. The man was accompanied by a woman.

He presented a birth certificate and a Social Security Card that showed different birth dates. The DMV employee noticed the difference and decided to call the police, while continuing to process the permit.

When police arrived, the man and the woman took off. But they were soon apprehended.

Police arrested 47-year-old Cace Sidoti on charges of forgery, ID theft, making false statements, and making a false application. Teresa Taylor, 33, was arrested for hindering prosecution and for carrying a concealed weapon.
