WOODLAND, Wash. -- A 30-year-old Lacey, Wash., man died after diving from a railroad bridge into the Lewis River Sunday.

Police were called just before 6 a.m. to the report that a man went into the river near Dike Road and Kuhnis Road and was missing, according to Charlie Rosenzweig of the Cowlitz County Sheriff's Office

Responding deputies learned that 30-year-old Michael George Fetchik II had dived from a bridge commonly call "Ghost Bridge," and witnesses were unable to find him and bring him to shore.

Rescue crews responded and were able to find his body at about 7:20 a.m., Rosenzweig said.

Initial reports indicated he likely drowned, but the official cause and manner of death were still under investigation.

Rosenzweig said Fetchik had been swimming with friends and the incident was not a suicide. Foul play is not suspected.
