PORTLAND -- A man had his car stolen at gunpoint Monday night in Southeast Portland.
Officers were dispatched about 11:30 p.m. to a report of a carjacking near SE 81st and Main Street and learned that a man pulled up in a red van, then got out and pointed a gun, according to Sgt. Pete Simpson.
The man reportedly demanded the keys for the 1998 Acura Integra. The victim complied and the suspect drove off, followed by the van.
A sergeant spotted the car and van traveling eastbound on Washington Street, near 92nd. The two vehicles went in different directions and officer followed the Acura, which spun out.
The driver got out and ran, then tried to hide along the MAX tracks but was found and arrested without incident, Simpson said.
Jose Heredia, 22, was accused of two counts each of first and second-degree robbery. His bail was set at $1 million. He was also listed on jail records as a felony fugitive.
The driver of the red van got away.
