PORTLAND -- Some four-legged therapists are bringing joy to preschoolers whose families are going through stressful situations.

Twice a week, dogs from Pet Partners visit young kids at the Family Relief Nursery in Southeast Portland.

On Monday, “Manny” visited the nursery to play some ball with the kids and give them a healthy dose of unconditional love.

"The kids absolutely love it,” said volunteer coordinator Gary Marschke. “Their faces light up when Manny or any of the other pet partners come and visit."

Pet Partners is a worldwide organization that started in Portland, as the Delta Society, in 1977.

The nonprofit is dedicated to showing that positive interactions with animals improve people's physical, psychological and emotional health.

Marschke said the agency has served more than a million children in North America so far.

The group will be holding a fundraiser in downtown Portland on September 28. Click here for more information
