GOVERNMENT CAMP, Ore. -- A team who calls themselves the Wounded Warriors will be among the thousands of runners taking part in the Hood to Coast Relay this weekend.
They are part of Team War-Fighter Sports,” veterans who have suffered serious injuries. Stephen Martin is one of them. He was hurt in Iraq in 2008 when an IED hit the Humvee he was riding in.
Martin’s legs were badly hurt and he made the difficult decision to have them amputated. Now he says he’s doing more than ever.
“This year, in 2012, I've run 5 half marathons, a full marathon, a triathlon, some 5Ks, 10Ks and was with a group that actually went up Denali,” he said, beaming.
And as for Hood to Coast, Martin said his team isn’t concerned with how fast they run; it’s all about finishing.
