PORTLAND – Vandals have been carving up a Portland woman’s car by slashing the convertible top in multiple places.
Christy Weber is recovering from cancer and decided to share her frustration with the vandalism on social media. KGW decided to look into it and found there have been at least a dozen other vehicles hit in her neighborhood.
Weber has not had a good week. Just when she got her convertible repaired after someone cut a square into it, it was slashed up again. The second slashing came after she left a note on her car that says she survived cancer.
She's been dealing with that, and she really doesn't need this.
Now she’s too scared to show her face.
"I did a police report and was told this has been happening, same thing, same foot by foot square,” she said. “Like I don't know, they're making a quilt. I have no idea why they would do that."
Steve Mackley with Beaverton Auto Upholstery said within the past week and a half he's seen the same thing12 times. One Volkswagen Bug was slashed twice.
“She was almost in tears when she called me last night. She can't even leave her car out anymore,” Mackley said.”There is no point. We get the occasional vandalized tops but not to this extent."
It's not just cars. There have been several reports of squares cut into a motorcycle. Police have been taking reports but said they want to make sure other victims come forward to report these crimes.
"If this person doesn't get caught, no one with a convertible or motorcycle or scooter can park in their neighborhood," Weber said.
KGW reporter Erica Heartquist contributed to this report.
