PORTLAND -- A TriMet rail operator was honored with a special award after reaching an impressive milestone.
Victor Ornelas has been a rail operator with TriMet for 22 years. No other rail driver has been with the agency longer.
During that time, Ornelas has completed more than 58,800 driving hours without any preventable accidents, warnings or reprimands.
That makes Ornelas the first driver to achieve Gold Maser ranking, earning him TriMet's first Rail Gold Grand Master Operator award.
"I didn't set a goal to become a Gold Grand Master, I just showed up every day and did the job the best I could," Ornelas said.
Three bus drivers have also received Gold Grand Master Operator awards.
