PORTLAND – Thousands of people turned out Sunday for an event honoring a 7-year-old boy killed in a car crash last month.

Jake Arntson was killed when the truck he was in slid on an icy roadway and went into the Columbia River on December 31.

His family said he never met a stranger he didn’t turn into a friend. Perhaps that’s why more than 2,300 people packed into the Clackamas High School gym for more than three hours to honor him.

“Jake learned something in seven years that most people don’t learn in 70,” said his uncle Tony, “that it’s all about loving people.”

Hundreds of people wrote down special stories about Jake and how he impacted them. Those stories will hopefully give his family comfort as they try to heal from the tragedy.
