PORTLAND -- Teenagers evacuated from the massive wildfire in southern California returned home to Portland late on Saturday.

There were plenty of hugs at PDX as the kids were greeted by their loved ones. The teens had been attending a church camp in the mountains near Palm Springs when the fire forced the evacuation of their campground.

Before they left, the teens shot this video of the towering pillars of smoke from the fire (watch above).

When the evacuation order came, they were forced to leave the camp quickly.

“We did have to leave everything behind. All of our luggage except the most important essentials, and we actually had the people up in Idyllwild that were taking care of us at the camp. They actually brought our stuff to us on Thursday night,” said Terra Bundance with New Thought Center for Spiritual Living.

The kids spent a night in a Red Cross shelter with 400 evacuees. That fire, which spans 42 square miles, is now 25 percent contained. So far, the fire has destroyed 23 structures including seven homes.
