TROUTDALE, Ore. -- A teenager with a medical condition who disappeared from Glenn Otto Park along the Sandy River in Troutdale was found dead Friday.
Crews found the body of 14-year-old Andrez Bermudez at around 7:45 p.m. in the river just north of the I-84 freeway . They were assisted by the Army Naitonal Guard's UH-60L Blackhawk helicopter and crew.
Investigators said Bermudez had been last seen by his sister at the park around 6 p.m. Thursday. His sister said they were on opposite sides of the river and she swam across, but was swept downstream. When she reached the shore, her brother was gone.
The girl went home and told her parents four hours later. The parents contacted police and a search began.
"Oh it just made me very sad,, said Tina Barbo, who works at H.B. Lee Middle School where the teen graduated recently. "I heard on the news that boy was missing, I saw his face and I was just . . . it got me, you know, it got my heart."
Glenn Otto Community Park is located just south of Interstate 84, along the Historic Columbia river Highway and the Sandy River.
