SALEM -- A teenage girl was sexually assaulted after a man broke into her Salem home, according to Marion County sheriff's deputies.
Investigators said the assault happened between 3:00 and 6:00 a.m. Sunday, in the area of 46th Avenue SE and State Street SE.
"The concern is for the victim, obviously, we want to track this person down," said Sgt. Chris Baldridge. “We also want to prevent any future acts if this person is out there."
Deputies aren't saying whether the victim knew the suspect, or how he got into the home.
"I hope they find that guy," said neighbor Olga Perez. "I will be looking all around for anything I can report to police."
"It aggravates me," neighbor Christopher Ulloa added. "It makes me want to do more around here, but there's only so much you can do for a neighborhood."
Deputies said the suspect was described as 5-foot-5 with a strong, but thin build. He had shoulder-length hair pulled back into a pony tail and was wearing basketball shorts and a tank top or cut-off T-shirt.
"We want to hear from anyone who saw something unusual in the area at the time of the crime," said Sgt. Baldridge. "That small bit of information you may have may break this case wide open for us."
