PORTLAND -- Several hundred people showed up for a rally against violence held Sunday at the Pioneer Courthouse Square in Portland.

That's where federal authorities say a Corvallis teenager plotted to set off a bomb at a Christmas tree-lighting event.

The 19-year-old former Oregon State University student was arrested Nov. 26 after an FBI sting. Two days later, the Corvalis Islamic Center he sometimes attended was hit by an arsonist.

About 300 people gathered in the square for the rally. Some carried signs reading "Islam for Peace" and "Hate is Not Welcome Here."

More than two dozen organizations, including Christian, Jewish and Buddhist groups, sponsored the event.
