A new mobile application called Zoomingo promises to help parents save money and time while shopping for back to school.
"It stands for zoom in and go find the best sales out there," said developer and CEO Sherish Nadkarni.
Zoomingo posts thousands of sale items from more than 80 national retailers under several categories, including "back to school."
"Parents want to do the best for their kids, they want to get the best items and it's great that they can save some money with that application," said Nadkarni.
At the Staples store in Tigard, Barbara Wright and her grandkids were checking off the items on their back-to-school shopping lists.
"You'll spend a pretty penny, especially with more than one grandchild that you're shopping for," said Wright.
This year, retailers predict shoppers will spend 10 percent more than they did last year for back to school supplies. Add to that gas money for hopping from store-to-store searching for the best bargains.
"Because of the economic times right now, saving money is really important," said Wright.
For retailers like Staples, being featured on Zoomingo is another way to advertise while saving customers money.
"Anything we can do to interact with technology and help our customers find what they need at the most convenient price is good," said Staples sales manager Chris Hamblin.
And while how much customers save depends on how much they spend, The Zoomingo app is free. Other popular shopping apps include Google shopper, Barcode Scanner and Coupon Sherpa.
