PORTLAND -- The Pongo Fund pet food bank served its 5 millionth meal over the weekend.
Twice a month, volunteers provide food for pet owners who can't afford to feed their animals.
Pets and their owners lined up early Sunday outside the Pongo Fund's warehouse in Southeast Portland.
“The idea that people come to the Pongo Fund three hours before we open tells us how important this is to them,” said executive director Larry Chusid. “It reminds us that pets are family too.”
Sunday also marked the fund’s fourth anniversary.
