FOREST GROVE - A man was gunned down in front of his home in Forest Grove Monday night and died in a neighbor's arms.
Neighbors reported hearing three gunshots just after 10 p.m. Monday on B Street near Pacific University.
"I was inside and I thought I heard someone moaning," said neighbor Michael Larkin. He said he told his wife to call 911 while he went outside.
Outside, Luis Manuel Guzman, 28, was lying face down.
A neighbor with a flashlight came over and they approached the victim, who Larkin says was bleeding and clearly in trouble.
"I told him to hang in there, and I don't know if he could hear me," said Larkin. "He was still kind of gasping, so I just held his hand and while I was holding his hand he shivered and stopped moving and I believe that (then) he died.”
Officers arrived on the scene within a few minutes, but Guzman was dead when police arrived.
"At this point, we do not have a suspect," said Capt. Mike Herb with the Forest Grove Police.
Murders are rare in this quiet community west of Portland. This was only the second murder this year, according to Capt. Herb, and it left neighbors shaken.
"You're not used to hearing gunshots," said Jo Erickson.
As for Michael Larsen, who watched Guzman die, he says he didn't sleep much last night - and tonight might not be much better.
"I'm not sure that I can describe how I'm feeling, and it will take some time to process what's happened."
Anyone with information was asked to call Forest Grove police.
