50 years ago, Oregon's presidential primary was different. It mattered. For many people living here then, John F Kennedy wasn' t just a politician on television. You could meet him.

Between 1958 and 1960, Kennedy visited Oregon two dozen times. At Hotel Multnomah downtown, the state fair--and as you're about to see, just down the road at council crest.

Kennedy would become the youngest president to ever hold the office and in the process changed the way we think of *who* is presidential.

Portland author Scott Farris just released a book comparing two popular presidents--he argues, without Kennedy there would likely never have been Reagan.
