PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) -- Upon winning his second-straight state championship, Jesuit's Stephen Holt pounded his chest
and raised two fingers skyward.
This wasn't a peace sign for the student section. It was a two. As in two, back-to-back state championships.
Holt had 23 points and seven rebounds as top-ranked Jesuit defeated Westview 66-44 in the OSAA Class 6A championship game Saturday night at the Rose Garden.
The victory fulfilled a goal the Jesuit players set for themselves after winning last year's title, said Holt, ho is headed for St. Mary's.
"We knew we would be in this game. We knew we would be here right here, right now," Holt said as his teammates began to cut down the net.
Kyle Wiltjer, a 6-foot-9 junior, added 19 points and 10 rebounds for the Crusaders (26-2) who have collected four state titles.
Austin Kuemper had 17 points and 10 rebounds for the second-ranked Wildcats (25-4) who trailed by as many as 23 points. The loss snapped Westview's 11 game winning streak, which included a regular-season victory over Jesuit.
The Wildcats have never won a state title.
Jesuit, the Metro League champion, jumped out quickly and decisively, spurred on by a vocal student section.
Holt's layup with 1:32 to go in the first quarter made it 14-2. After Holt hit a free throw, Devon Wallace hit a pair for Westview to make it 15-4 going into the second.
Jesuit was overpowering, both on offense and defense. After Ben Ellsworth hit a 3-pointer, Holt added a jumper to make it 22-6. A fan on Jesuit's side shouted: "Wow, this is embarrassing."
Westview mounted something of a rally, closing to within 24-12 on Hayes Garrity's jumper, but Jesuit carried a 27-14 lead into the half.
The Wildcats were 6-for-27 from the floor in the first half.
It was much the same in the second, with Westview trying to play catch-up. Kuemper's jumper closed the Wildcats to 32-12, but Jesuit was simply to strong and quick.
The Crusaders went up 43-23 with 6:19 to go in the game on a pair of free throws from Wiltjer.
With one minute to go, Jesuit students began chanting: "Back-to-back, back-to-back!"
Jesuit coach Gene Potter knows the question about No. 3 is coming. "I think it may be thrown out there a lot, just like repeat was thrown out by a lot of people -- except us,"
Potter said. "We're just going to enjoy this one tonight."
Jesuit won two out of three against the Wildcats this season. The Crusaders' 51-50 loss was only their second of the season: They fell to California's Westchester 68-54 in December's Les Schwab Invitational in Hillsboro.
Jesuit defeated fourth-ranked Lincoln 66-41 in the semifinals, while Westview escaped No. 5 South Eugene 56-53.
Portland Trail Blazers rookie guard Patty Mills was among nearly 5,000 fans who attended the game.
