PORTLAND - A friend of a teenage shooting victim described Friday how she helped the girl to safety amid the rampage.
Alyona Chukhrii was with 15-year-old Kristina Shevchenko, who was shot Tuesday at the Clackamas Town Center. She was upgraded to fair condition Friday at Oregon Health & Science University.
Shevchenko suffered injuries to her lung and liver. Chukhrii was by her side when the gunman opened fire.
“The first thing, I still didn’t want to believe it but I knew the reality and I knew she’d been shot," she said. "I was like ‘We’ve got to get you to safety, we’ve got to get you to an ambulance because we don’t know what could happen next."
She helped Kristina make her way outside and police called over an ambulance in a matter of minutes.
