FOREST GROVE, Ore. -- A 7-year-old boy was hit by a shuttle bus in Forest Grove after visiting an ice cream truck Wednesday.

Damian Shelton's father said his son forgot to look both ways before crossing the street. The boy was hospitalized with a skull fracture.

“It doesn't matter how many times you tell them to look both ways before crossing, he didn't look and the bus impacted him,” said Damian’s dad, Justin McGillivary.

McGillivary hopes kids and adults can learn from the accident.

“Take the extra five minutes to go and watch them or escort them,” he said. “I know that if I would have just taken an extra five minutes out of my day, there wouldn't have been an issue. There wouldn't have been a problem, and that rides hard on a parent.”

The folks from the Portland Ice Cream Company also have some advice after Wednesday’s crash: Always cross the street behind an ice cream truck. If you cross in front of it, you won't be able to see the traffic coming from behind it.
