LAKE OSWEGO, Ore. -- It's not always easy for kindergarteners to keep still and/or quiet. But a class at Forest Hills elementary in Lake Oswego is learning how, thanks to eight little ducklings.

“When they were hatching, we were whispering,” teacher Alison Tinger explained. “With the lights off for almost five days as they hatched, the kids are just learning a true respect for nature.”

Tinger takes the ducklings on walks around the school so other students can see them, too. They "imprinted" on her, and they follow her everywhere.

The ducklings hatched April 30th and they’ll be moving to a farm on Friday.

One of them, named Sparkles, might eventually have a career in show business; she was hamming it up for the KGW cameras.
