OAK GROVE, Ore. -- A family dog woke up an Oak Grove family as their house was burning down early Tuesday morning.

The fire broke out around midnight at the home at 2518 SE Laurel St in Oak Grove.  The family was able to escape, along with the dog named Colby. Unfortunately, the family’s other dog did not survive.

Colby was in the back yard and scratched at the door until his owners woke up, according to the family.

The home sustained significant damage.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Investigators said there were working smoke detectors in the home, but the dog alerted the people inside before the alarms had even started to sound.
