PORTLAND -- The suspected driver in a deadly hit-and-run in Portland last March was arrested in Bellingham, Wash. Friday and appeared in court Monday.
U.S. Marshals arrested 23-year-old Ashley Chavez leaving a restaurant on Telegraph Road and getting into a car around 2 p.m.
Portland police said she will face several charges, including manslaughter, hit-and-run, tampering with evidence, and DUII.
The victim, Nancy Schoeffler, was found lying in the road on West Burnside at 11:20 p.m. on March 31, 2012. She was deceased when medical crews arrived.
Investigators said she was the victim of a hit-and-run and tips eventually led them to Chavez and her car.
The alleged passenger in Chavez' car, Angela Kaps Collins, was arrested on Memorial Day. She was charged with hindering prosecution and tampering with evidence. Police said they found the suspect vehicle hidden on her Corbett property.
