VANCOUVER – A single mother in Vancouver is facing a bleak Christmas morning after thieves broke into her home and stole the family’s gifts from under the Christmas tree.
Vancouver residents Debra Deblander and her 13-year-old son, Kayvin, were at work and school on Friday when thieves allegedly ransacked their home.
Among the stolen goods were the family’s television set, items from Kayvin’s room, and every single present from underneath the Christmas tree.
“Pretty much everything was gone through,” said Leslie Carpenter, the victim’s sister. “Important papers, keys to cars, personal information and even ashes from our uncle.”
Carpenter filed a report with the Vancouver police but said no suspects have been identified yet. She said she wants the thieves to know the pain they caused her family.
“This is so sad. What 13-year-old boy wants to come in and find their stuff taken right before Christmas?” Carpenter said. “It’s just heartbreaking.”
