A hotel surveillance video that purportedly shows Beyoncé's sister Solange Knowles attacking her brother-in-law Jay Z on May 5 is making the rounds on the internet, fueling considerable speculation on social media as to what caused the scuffle.

The silent video was obtained by TMZ, but NBC News has not yet verified that the footage is actually of the three entertainers, who attended the Metropolitan Museum of Art Gala in New York City last Monday.

The three people in the video, along with a man presumed to be a bodyguard, are seen entering an elevator at New York's Standard Hotel. Within seconds, the woman thought to be Solange lashes out at the man believed to be Jay Z.

The second man restrains her, and her purse goes flying. After sustaining a few kicks, the man who appears to be Jay Z grabs the woman's leg, while the woman believed to be Beyoncé steps between them. The group exits the elevator moments later, and the first woman takes a final swing.

A video shot shortly after the alleged incident, as the three exited the building, shows Solange unsmiling and Jay Z touching his cheek.

The Standard Hotel issued a statement to NBC about the elevator video leak: "We are shocked and disappointed that there was a clear breach of our security system and the confidentiality that we count on providing our guests. We are investigating with the utmost urgency."

Solange's Wikipedia entry went through several temporary edits after the video made rounds, one of which listed her as "Jay Z's 100th problem." And social media has lit up since the video's release, with the hashtag #WhatJayZSaidToSolange trending on Twitter.

Reps for Beyoncé, Solange and Jay Z have not returned calls for comment from NBC News, and none have spoken publicly about the incident.
