BEAVERTON, Ore. -- A Beaverton School Board meeting was packed Monday night with students trying to save a teacher's job.

Robert Stafford has taught social studies at Westview High School since 2003. He was fired after failing to renew his teaching license when it expired in August.

"I see him so involved in the school, so involved in his classes, so involved in his extracurricular activities," said Westview senior Jackie Salzinger. "That he overlooked something like that, it's not something that phases me in the slightest."

A district spokesperson said Stafford had three months to get his license renewed, but he failed to do it.

Stafford said he took the classes he needed, but didn't file the paperwork. He said he accepts the district's decision and will continue working to renew his license.
