BEAVERTON, Ore. -- Jacob Linville, a 5-year-old Beaverton boy, was seriously injured Monday night after being hit by a car in the parking lot of an apartment complex.

Beaverton police officers and Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue responded to the Fairway Downs apartments at 8600 SW Scholls Ferry Rd on a report of a child being struck by a car.

Police said the driver was backing out of a parking spot when the child ran behind the car and was hit.

A neighbor, Mathew Arias, said the boy’s father confronted the driver, who was surprised and upset.

“The father hugged [the driver] and told her to calm down and he knew it was an accident,” said Arias.

Police said the driver stayed on the scene and was not charged or cited.

Jacob was transported by ambulance to a hospital where he underwent surgery for a broken tibia. His uncle said the surgery went well and he may be released Tuesday.

Neighbors said the apartment's posted 5-mile-per-hour speed limit is often ignored.
