MOLALLA, Ore. -- An 18-year-old BMX rider is in a local hospital after a serious crash.

The unidentified rider was flown to Legacy Emanual Medical center by Lifeflight. He was riding at Molalla River BMX when he reportedly crashed. Byron Wakefield of the Molalla Fire District was one of the first rescue workers on the scene he said the rider wasn’t wearing a helmet.

“He took a jump and went head over the handle bars and did a face plant,” Wakefield said.

Scott Baker, who was watching his son ride today without wearing a helmet, said “Usually he does, it’s not with him, it’s at his mother’s. It’s kind of hard to keep him from riding just because he doesn’t have a helmet.”

Wakefield said it was the third crash they’ve responded to at the track in the last few weeks.
