PORTLAND – A popular Northeast Portland bar that burned down last month is expected to reopen next year, and dozens of other businesses are chipping in to help out its employees in the meantime.

The owner of Pal’s Shanty, Jim Hanson, said he’s planning a major overhaul of the restaurant that should take about six months, but some of his employees are without work until then.

Several local businesses will be sponsoring a fundraiser Saturday to help those employees out.

Velo Cult bike shop and bar will host the fundraiser from 6 p.m. until 10 p.m., offering raffles, music, tamales and cupcakes. And $1 from every beer sold will go to the Pal's Shanty Crew Relief Fund
