The threat of freezing temperatures has nursery owners warning people to cover annuals and tender vegetation already in the ground.

A simple bed sheet will work. Gardeners with plant stands around their tomatoes can slip a plastic garbage bag over the plants.

The spring gardening season is about two weeks behind as people wait to put out spring color until the cold weather moves out and warm spring days return. Nurseries are hoping for a warm Mother's Day weekend.

This upcoming Saturday and Sunday can be the busiest of the entire season. Not only will gardeners be planting the usual, but replacement shrubs are also needed thanks to last December's cold arctic outbreak.
