A once in a century sequence of storms descended on the Northwest in the first months of 1996. First snow and ice, then rain in record amounts. The Columbia and the Willamette and river systems along the coast and thru the valleys surged to record levels, inundating many communities and threatening downtown Portland. KGW provided continuous coverage of the storm, the flood, the emergency response and the aftermath.
