In October, 1992, the world famous Spruce Goose - with the largest wingspan of any plane every built - pulled up along the seawall in downtown Portland. Granted it was in pieces on a barge but it had arrived in what would be it's new home. February of the next year the plane was transported down the valley to McMinnville and was welcomed with great fanfare as the centerpiece to the Evergreen Aviation and Space Museum.
