Pioneering OHSU and Providence Health Systems surgeon Dr. Albert Starr and his team performing open heart surgery in 1967 to replace a patient's mitral valve with an artificial one. Dr. Starr co-invented that first artificial mitral heart valve and also developed many techniques and devices used in cardiac surgery. This KGW film shows the team in action and some of the machinery used at the time. Please note, this film is silent.
