Airlines resume flights at PDX
08:20 AM PST on Thursday, December 25, 2008
PORTLAND, Ore. -- A break from the snow allowed the Portland International Airport to return to a degree of normalcy.
Conditions on the runways were good and flights were getting in and out -- though there were delays.
Out of 227 scheduled arrivals, only seven were canceled Wednesday. And only five of the 222 scheduled take-offs failed to materialize.
Meanwhile, Amtrak reported a one-hour delay for trains headed north or south out of Portland, but no cancellations. But not everything was back to normal. TriMet bus service continues to be limited, and buses traveling the Portland-to-Boise and Portland-to-Spokane routes were canceled.
Countless delays and cancellations over the weekend and on Monday tangle holiday travel for many at PDX.

Passengers sleep in the Portland airport, waiting for flights to be rescheduled.
Because of the weather, travelers were encouraged to check their flight schedules before leaving for the airport. Schedule information is available at www.pdx.com, 877-PDX-INFO, and from airlines. Travelers who need to rebook canceled flights should do so directly with their airlines.

Even though the worst of the weather was over, airport officials encouraged travelers to arrive at least two hours before their flights to allow adequate time to reach their gates on time. Travelers should also give themselves extra time to get to the airport and use caution, because of slippery road conditions in the region.
