North Coast tourism steady amid rising gas prices
12:38 PM PDT on Sunday, August 3, 2008
ASTORIA, Ore. -- Tourism has remained fairly steady on the northern Oregon coast despite rising gasoline prices and reductions in ocean salmon fishing seasons.
The number of visitors to Seaside and Cannon Beach is continuing to increase as it has done for the past three years.
The number of walk-in visitors at the Seaside Visitor's Bureau for the month of June surpassed any other month since the city began keeping track of visits in 2005.
Cannon Beach Chamber of Commerce officials say visitors are choosing more day trips and fewer weeklong stays at the beach.
