When it comes to recreation in Central Oregon, there’s a new sheriff in town.

Brasada Ranch, set on 1,800 acres near Powell Butte just northeast of Bend, offers all the amenities of older, larger area resorts with less crowding and a shorter drive. A panorama of Cascade peaks rims this former sheep ranch. The Northview Hotel Group recently purchased the property and, after $3 million in renovations this year, guests can now enjoy resort-quality amenities and recreation, from dining to golf to horseback riding, or just lounging by the pool.

Lodging and Dining

Brasada Ranch offers eight suites at the Brasada Ranch House Lodge, each with private decks, fireplaces and oversized bathrooms. In addition, 40 Sage Canyon cabins at the ranch are available for overnight stays. These one, two and three-bedroom homes are spacious hideaways with gourmet kitchens and many have private hot tubs.

Guests can enjoy a drink and gourmet snack at The Ranch House, where they can also stock up on supplies for cooking their own dinner; or, they can enjoy gourmet dining at the Range Restaurant, where Executive Chef Adrian Carpenter, recently relocated from Aspen, cooks up memorable specialties with locally grown, organic ingredients.

Pools and Recreation

Families will love to relax at the Ranch’s two large outdoor pools featuring a “lazy river,” a water slide, and a man-made waterfall. There are also five outdoor hot tubs for relaxing.

Those who take their exercise seriously can head inside the 17,000 square foot Athletic Center to swim in the lap pool or work out in the fitness center, or hit the courts for a game tennis or beach volleyball. Mountain bike rentals are also available. Kids will enjoy The Hideout, packed with games, an indoor climbing wall and a media gaming room.

Golf

Central Oregon is known for its golf courses, and Brasada’s Canyons course adds to that legacy. Designed by Peter Jacobsen and Jim Hardy, the 18-hole course offers consistently stunning views of the surrounding cascade peaks from its elevated tees.

Five different distance options allow golfers to tailor the experience to suit their abilities, and wide spacing between greens and tees give golfers the remarkable sense of having the course all to themselves.

Horseback riding

For a true ranch experience, head down to the Equestrian Center where Kevin and Therese Friedman and their team of wranglers are ready to take guests on guided horseback tours along the resort’s expansive trail system.

The stable includes a horse for every level of rider, instruction for all ages and abilities, and customized rides along miles of scenic trails.
