Washington Governor Chris Gregoire today called for a half-cent increase to the state sales tax to offset a projected $1.4 billion budget deficit.
Without the temporary increase, Gregoire's budget would cut health care for 55,000 people, and shorten the school year.
Gregoire's proposed sales tax increase would expire in 2015.
