PORTLAND -- Several Portland events will mark the 1-year anniversary Sunday of Japan’s devastating earthquake and tsunami.
A remembrance ceremony at Portland's Japanese Garden will culminate with the ringing of a bronze temple bell at the exact moment the disaster struck, at 2:46 p.m.
Local musicians will hold a benefit concert at Southeast Portland’s Aladdin Theater at 7 p.m. The event is called “From Oregon with Love 2012," and it will be hosted by KGW’s Tracy Barry.
A reception was also scheduled Monday in the Downtown Portland Hilton, to "express appreciation for the support and to showcase the reconstruction efforts of Japan over the last year," according to Hirofumi Murabayashi, Deputy Consul General of Japan in Portland.
The event was scheduled to begin at 2 p.m., in the Pavilion Room.
