PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) -- Oregon Attorney General John Kroger says his office will work to speed up the transfer of technology from Oregon university labs to the private sector to create new jobs.

In his first full day in office, Kroger joined higher education officials and business leaders to announce a plan to streamline licensing for new technology developed from university research and make it ready for commercial use.

Kroger said allowing companies to develop technology faster will give them a competitive edge and create jobs.

The Democrat, who was elected in November, said he plans to have any necessary changes in technology transfer licensing drafted before the end of the 2009 session of the Legislature.
