PORTLAND -- The task was clear for the Portland Thorns: Beat the Seattle Reign for a spot in the National Women's Soccer League playoffs.

And they pulled it off.

The defending champion Thorns hosted the Reign at Providence Park Sunday.

In the first half, Alex Morgan had a chance to score. But goalkeeper Hope Solo stopped it.

The Thorns finally broke through in the second half. Right off of a corner kick, Morgan put it in the net with a header.

The final score was 1-0.

The Thorns now head to Kansas City to start a playoff run. Kickoff is at 10 a.m Saturday.
