TIGARD, Ore. -- Some local track and field athletes had a very successful summer. Thirty members of the Tigard Youth Track Club made the trip to Houston, Texas earlier this summer for the Junior Olympics.

Eight team members earned All-America honors and one brought home a gold medal.

Lauren Mcfall won the javelin in here age group. She said the Junior Olympics were thrilling.

"It went great. I had a really great time going with all my teammates," she said. "I'm happy to bring home Tigard's first gold medal."

Head coach Ralph Greene is very proud of all the athletes who were part of Tigard Youth Track and Field.

"The beauty of Tigard Youth is that it's a team, but an individual sport, too. So you have all the individual tests and challenges but you also compete as a group," he said.
