GRESHAM, Ore. -- Three months after a deadly shooting at Reynolds High School, students got their first look at a new beginning.
On Wednesday, the school held an open house at its newly-remodeled PE building. It featured a giant, multi-screen video wall that showed clips of Reynolds athletes, past and present. On the floor, there was a mural of the Reynolds Raiders mascot, to symbolize school pride.
The lobby bathrooms were also remodeled.
Community partners and volunteers worked all summer to get the building ready, in time for the start of school. Students said they weren't expecting anything like what they saw.
"I can't believe what they did in here," said Reynolds Senior, Connor Stewart. "I wasn't expecting this much. I'm so thankful, it means a lot to us."
The PE building also has new security doors and surveillance cameras. Crews will finish remodeling the boys and girls locker rooms in a few weeks. The first day of school for all students at Reynolds High School is September 5.
