AMITY, Ore. – Swimmers should avoid part of the Yamhill River after three people tested positive for the same bacterial illness earlier this summer, the Oregon Health Authority said.
Spokesman Jonathan Modie said signs will be posted along the south part of the river near Amity warning people not to swim in the area due to E. coli concerns.
Three people who didn't know each other all reported swimming near Green Bridge before they became sick in late July and early August, Modie said. No other illnesses have been reported.
Health officials said the sickness could have come from a number of places, including storm runoff, sewer overflow, septic systems or animal waste.
Further tests were planned to check the bacteria levels, Modie said. The signs will remain at the river until the levels are deemed safe.
