YACOLT, Wash. -- Emergency officials responded to two separate drownings in Clark County and one in Lane County Tuesday afternoon.
Near Cottage Grove, the Lane County Sheriff's Office reported that 16-year-old Scott Alexander Smith, of Aloha, died after he tried to save his younger brother, who was slipping on the rocks at Wildwood Falls.
Both fell down a narrow chute and into the water. The younger brother survived.
Near Vancouver, 44-year-old Sean Margetis, was found in the water near Moulton Falls park, according to the Clark County Sheriff's Office. Witnesses called 911 to report that he had jumped off the rocks at Moulton Falls and never resurfaced.
His body was recovered from the water several hours after he went in.
Another victim was spotted by a boater in the Lewis River, near Cottonwood Road and the Lewis River Golf Course. Investigators said 80-year-old Donald Kemper was submerged in eight to ten feet of water on the river bottom. He had not been wearing a life jacket.
His small fishing boat was found upstream, tangled in river debris.
On Sunday, boater Jay Jones disappeared near the mouth of the Lewis River and was presumed drowned. His body has not yet been located.
