PORTLAND -- We use social media for all sorts of things, so why not use it to prepare for an emergency? That's exactly what emergency managers in Clark County are now doing.

Clark Regional Emergency Services Agency has developed a way to make the boring task of preparing for an emergency fun. It s called 30 Days 30 Ways.

CRESA came up with the month-long social media game to challenge people to get creative and think outside that emergency box.

We re basically giving people one simple task a day for preparedness and asking them to fulfill that, said Eric Frank, emergency management coordinator at CRESA.

The tasks include such things as conducting a fire drill or building a disaster kit. Participants then post their ideas on Facebook, twitter or Tumblr.

The more creative ones are done by video. What started with just a few hundred is now being played and viewed by tens of thousands across the world.

A winning entry is picked every day this month. Winners even get a prize.
