ASTORIA, Ore. -- A Washington state man has been sentenced to more than 34 years in prison following an officer-involved shooting at an Astoria, Ore., motel in February 2012.
Yevgeniy Pavlovich Savinskiy of Washougal was convicted last month of attempted aggravated murder and other charges stemming from the confrontation at the Lamplighter Motel.
Jurors also convicted him on several related charges, including conspiracy to commit aggravated murder and conspiracy to commit aggravated assault.
Prosecutors say he tried to hire a county jail inmate last summer to kill his ex-wife as well as a police officer, and to severely injure a deputy district attorney.
The Daily Astorian reports that Judge Phil Nelson handed down the sentence Friday, saying Savinskiy doesn't care about other people.
