PORTLAND -- The Portland metro area has been socked by rain this week and it's going to continue through Memorial Day weekend.

While the wet weather may be a welcome relief from an impending early fire season, the rain is putting a bit of a damper on the weekend.

Campers and Rose Festival goers should remember to prepare for the wet weather this weekend, and to bring their mud boots for the City Fair at Waterfront park.

On Sunday, there will be few showers with partly to mostly cloudy skies and temps in the mid-60s. On Monday another system will roll through with light rain and similar temperatures, said KGW Meteorologist Nick Allard.

While the rain comes as a bit of a bummer, it s at least going to be a little warmer than earlier this week.

On Tuesday, the rain was coupled with unseasonably cold temperatures that lead to some snow at Government Camp and a few inches above 3,000 feet. Most of the snow at pass level will be gone by the weekend.

Many Cascade campgrounds will be open on Memorial Day weekend for the first time in years. Other high-elevation sites such as Frog Lake remain closed.

Whether you are planning to stick around the metro area or to head out for an outdoor adventure, you may be able to stay dry, but there's no avoiding the mud.
