PORTLAND A celebration for a Milwaukie soldier severely wounded in Afghanistan brought crowds to Southeast Portland Saturday afternoon.

Alex Hussey, a 2010 Milwaukie High School graduate, was injured two years ago after his unit came under attack in Afghanistan just months before he was scheduled to come home.

Hussey lost both his legs below the knee and three fingers after an IED exploded during his unit s patrol.

Hussey finally returned to Milwaukie earlier this week.

On Saturday, a police escort brought Hussey to a celebration in his honor at the VFW post on Southeast Fern Avenue.

Milwaukie high classmates, friends and fellow veterans welcomed Hussey back home at the celebration.

Community members were also raising funds to help Hussey pay off a $20,000 loan for his wheelchair-accessible truck.
