PORTLAND, Ore. - The Wheeler County sheriff's office says Highway 26 east of Prineville remains closed because of wildfire caused by lightning.

The closure is at Ochoco Pass, near Mitchell.

The highway links Prineville in Central Oregon and John Day in the Blue Mountains. Motorists are being advised to use Highway 207 as an alternative.

Campers and residents of about a dozen ranch homes were advised to evacuate Monday as a result of the fires that broke out during a barrage of lightning that swept across the state.

The sheriff's office says that advisory remained in effect Tuesday.

The fires are now called the Waterman Complex, consisting of three groups of fires.
